Move over tulip skirts, Pleats are the new way to wear your skirt this season. Who remembers pleated skirts as part of those horrendous school uniforms you couldn’t wait to get out of? I do! Forward 2011, the trend report from leading Fashion Designers have it as the chicest spring/summer look to sport.

Last season, lady-like fashion emerged with mid-length skirts, pussy-blouses and now Fashion Houses have carried on in the same stride by adding pleats to their S/S 2011 runway shows. We had floral pleated dresses from Erdem, metallics at House of Holland and a mixture of bright hue and classic grey pleats from Jonathan Saunders.

Mini pleated skirts are the order from the fashion experts and as spring has finally sprung, I’ll recommend wearing your pleats with knitwear and bare legs. Team with a ankle boots for an edgy twist or a pair of courts in the style of lady-like fashion. At the moment some of you might still find it a little chilly for bare legs, a pleated maxi skirt is a good alternative.

A simple way to dress it up for a lunch is with a vest accessorised with a little cardie. Switch it up with a biker jacket for a night out! High Street favourite TopShop have already jumped on the fashion bandwagon with pleated skirts but if heading to the store is a little far-fetched click here to see the range stocked at American Apparel. There are tons to lust over!
